My name is Jack Merrick and I created this blog as a forum for sharing ideas, experiences and insights about caring for aging family members. Your comments and feedback are welcome! I manage an in-home care organization called Good Company Senior Care. Together with my wife Margot and our superstar team of caregivers, we work with seniors and their families across Los Angeles County and the Inland Empire. Our clients are typically in their late-70s, 80s or 90s, and want to live in their own homes rather than moving to nursing homes or assisted living facilities.
Some of our clients are recovering from illnesses, surgeries or injuries while others simply face the physical and mental challenges of aging. We have a lot of experience working with Alzheimer’s and dementia, at any stage of onset. For some seniors, we visit just a few hours a day to help out with chores and meals. For others, it’s 24/7 coverage, helping with bathing, toileting and every detail of daily life.
Senior caregiving has become a lifetime calling for us, and we love making a difference in so many lives. It’s always amazing to see the progress frail seniors make when they start experiencing daily companionship, regular meals, walks, a tidy home, mental stimulation and all the other benefits of having a caregiver. Just as important, we love being able to relieve the stress, anxiety and guilt that the families of these seniors have been struggling with on their own before they found us.
